what is detect?
Originating from the idea of being a platform for inspiring and unconventional musical experiences, Detect today consists of various music culture projects. Once a year we realise the Detect Classic Festival together with the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Since 2025, we have been bringing the Detect atmosphere to Switzerland at the Between Mountains Festival in collaboration with kfka, and in 2026 we are cooperating with the Konzerthaus Berlin for the first time at the nowHERE Festival.
With Ein Ding der Möglichkeit, we are also hosting a music residency programme in northern Germany. Since 2022, the Detect Ensemble, led by Paulina Sofie Kiss, has been operating as our festival’s sound body and a musical partner to a variety of artists.
Other formats included the detect Landpartie and the Detect Classic Sessions, which we filmed during the pandemic and which you can watch on YouTube.

detect classic festival
Since 2019, the Detect Classic Festival has been organised as a 3-day festival together with the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, a team of music dramaturgical tinkerers and several art and cultural collectives from Bröllin, Leipzig and the surrounding area of Berlin. Since 2022, the venue has been Bröllin Castle in Fahrenwalde.

Since 2025, we have been working with kfka – Kollektiv für kulturelle Aufgaben to organise Between Mountains, a festival in Hölstein in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. Various Swiss collectives support us in the design process.

The new festival nowHERE puts the spotlight on the immediate physical experience of concerts, allowing audiences to experience them with particular intensity. A collaboration between the Konzerthaus, the Konzthausorchester and Detect Sounds with the IÇ IÇE Festival for New Anatolian Music.

detect lab
Together with Ein Ding der Möglichkeit, a co-creation space on an old farm in northern Germany, we are realising residencies for musicians and music makers. At the end of the residency, the residents and neighbours have the opportunity to experience the developed materials live.
detect ensemble
Drawing on their backgrounds in contemporary music, classical music and jazz, six musicians explore new avenues of musical expression: the Detect Ensemble has set itself the task of creating works that bring together the qualities of different worlds of art music, embracing complexity and artistic innovation through a profound process of co-creation.
