Removing Barriers & Discrimination-Sensitive Conduct

Find out what our festival stands for and how we want to promote inclusion in 2025 and 2026.

As a festival, we want to create spaces where everyone can feel comfortable and safe – regardless of physical abilities, origin, identity or background. We don't see awareness as something that just one team is responsible for, but as a shared attitude that we strive for throughout the entire festival.

accessibility & inclusion: we learn and change

In preparation for Detect 2025, we held a workshop on the topic of ‘barrier-free parties’ (run by WKU – barrierefreier Veranstaltungsservice UG) and reflected on the following:

  • True inclusion takes time, honest self-examination and the courage to break down barriers, even with limited resources.

  • We want to use more conscious language, make information clearer and specifically address issues such as quiet spaces, low-stimulus environments and usability.

  • We aim to publish our awareness concept, notices at the festival and parts of the website in simple language.

  • In diesem Jahr haben wir ein niederschwelliges, telefonisches Kontaktangebot vor und während dem Festival eingerichtet, das Sicherheit für Menschen mit Behinderung schaffen kann: +49 151 73069110

  • Feedback from people with disabilities will have a permanent place in the 2025 festival evaluation.

Goal: Initiate further concrete changes by 2026.

new to the team: discrimination-sensitive security

This year, we are working with a security crew that is not only professional but also discrimination-sensitive. This means clear communication, respectful treatment and a prioritised perspective of those affected.

The collaboration with Awareness is closely coordinated – in cases of ejections or conflicts as well as in feedback and learning processes. The security staff regularly participate in further training on awareness, anti-discrimination, de-escalation and emergency management. This form of collaboration strengthens the goal of considering and implementing awareness at all levels of the event.

workshops & self-reflection: our attitude remains in motion

In addition to the accessibility workshop, our team also took part in two further workshops in July this year on PsyCare (Eve & Rave, Münster) and on the Palestine-Israel issue (Jamila Al-Yousef).
