Kairos Kollektiv

What moves you? This question lies at the heart of the Kairos Kollektiv’s concert.

At the centre of this programme for chamber orchestra and dance are two works that explore movement in very different ways. Caroline Shaw’s Entr’acte (2011) draws on the forms of historical dances and transforms them into a surprising and shimmering musical language. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence (1890), inspired by memories of a stay in Italy, unfolds a sound world full of energy, passion and joie de vivre.

The programme is performed by the Kairos Kollektiv, a young chamber orchestra bringing together around 25 musicians from across Germany. Musical direction is by Gregor A. Mayrhofer, who has worked with ensembles including the Staatskapelle Berlin and the Bavarian State Orchestra. The choreographic concept is created by Pascal Schmidt and Andreas Schmidt. Pascal Schmidt has performed with companies such as the Bundesjugendballett and Hamburg Ballet and now develops his own work at the intersection of dance, activism and queer BIPoC perspectives. Andreas Schmidt is a World Champion and ten-time German Champion in Contemporary Dance and works internationally as a dancer, choreographer and educator.

The project is supported by the Landschaft des vormaligen Fürstentums Lüneburg.
