"trying to reach out" is a walking performance about the search for connection. Drawing on the practices of partisan radio stations, the work draws upon unrecorded accounts of the resistance and makes them tangible through the gesture of fleeting reception. The performers carry specially developed dipole antennas with integrated AM medium-wave radios. As they walk together, they pick up signals from existing radio stations as well as stations specially installed in the landscape. Through movement and orientation, voices emerge from the static.
"trying to reach out" interprets tuning into a frequency as a search for a connection to a place, to other voices and to the possibility of reaching one another.
