Well, do you ever feel a bit unfocused too? After a long day at work, you’ve spent another 40 minutes scrolling through Instagram Reels and now your head’s spinning? Are anxiety and exhaustion clinging to you? What we all need right now is just a bit of peace and quiet, isn’t it? Why do we feel so restless, especially now that things are quieting down around us?
We’re making ‘focus’ our festival theme for 2026 and inviting you to dive in with us. We’ll leave everyday life behind and immerse ourselves in musical worlds full of excitement, novelty, tradition, ritual and new beginnings. And at some point in between, it happens – we realise that we haven’t actually thought about anything for hours and have simply been present. Peace of mind at last.
Come along.
What exactly is focus?
Focus is more than concentration. It is the conscious decision to give your full attention to a subject, a sound or silence, a person, a stage, a feeling. Focus is inner peace, meditation and the beginning of flow. And even if a singer or a conductor doesn’t ask you to focus, the gestures and breathing of the orchestra members, the tension in the room, and the spaces themselves create an atmosphere in which you slip into the flow state all by yourself.
That, at any rate, is what we wish for you and for ourselves. And we know a few artists who could help you with that…
detect programme 2026
This year’s programme is packed with journeys into the subconscious and the unknown. Symphonies, shoegaze and jazz. Rituals, layers, meditations and textures. We invite you to immerse yourself in the music, to focus, to embrace the silence and let go, so that you may then sail into new worlds on a wave of sound. Welcome to Focus Island.
As we do every year, we’ve got a few more acts up our sleeve for you. If they’re confirmed, you’ll find out via one of the following channels.
got your tickets yet?
Half of our festival tickets had already sold out before we’d even announced the line-up. So you’d better get your passes sorted straight away!
Still not fully relaxed?
Perhaps our artist Robot Koch can help…
The soundscape specialist will be performing with the Detect Ensemble this year. The material was created during their detect lab residency last year. The combination of Koch’s cinematic electronic sound with the ensemble’s expressive acoustic textures creates a dynamic interplay between ambient electronica, contemporary classical music and immersive sound experiences. We are excited (and deeply relaxed).
