about angela slater

Dr Angela Elizabeth Slater is a composer from the United Kingdom who focuses on translating aspects of nature into music in her works. She was nominated for the Ivors Classical Award for her work 'Through the Fading Hour'. Her music is described as 'complex ... and often ravishingly composed', which 'plays skilfully and vividly with instrumental colours'.

Slater collaborates with performers, ensembles and initiatives around the world to explore sounds, colours and textures musically. Her work 'The Louder the Birds Sing' was premiered by the Residentie Orkest den Haag after being selected as the winner of the Gaudeamus Orchestra Music category. Slater's recent creative projects include fellowships at the Modern Music Festival, the Hong Kong Intimacy of Creativity Festival, the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival and the Creative Dialogues Festival. She has previously received composition fellowships at the Tanglewood Music Centre, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Society, and was a Mendelssohn Scholar. In 2025, her work 'Mountains become Oceans', a concerto for harp and percussion, was premiered by the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra.

In the second half of 2025 and into 2026, Slater is looking forward to beginning work on her first full-length opera, 'This is Jane'.
