Ronja Sophie Putz

Ronja Sophie Putz is a chamber musician, soloist, performer, director, improviser and composer. Alongside her close collaborations with composers, her repertoire spans music from the Baroque to the present day, as well as original compositions and improvisations that explore the interplay between the violin and the human voice.

She brings this stylistic openness and spirit of experimentation to a range of ensembles, including Zentaur Quartet, ensemble distr.action, newtopia, Ensemble Neue Kammer, and the improvisation collectives LYSE and Moons of Pluto.

In her own compositions and improvisations, she expands the sound of the violin through the use of her voice as well as objects such as screws, clamps and vibrators, exploring the boundary between poetic delicacy and absurdity. Another focus of her work lies in interdisciplinary projects, performative and staged concert formats, and connecting different art forms with social and political engagement.

In her solo programme sogno/suono for violin and voice, Ronja Sophie Putz creates a delicate sonic world in which familiar and unexpected sounds drift through an ever-expanding silence. Through experimentation, improvisation and composition, she has developed a musical language driven by a fascination with discovering difference within similarity—and vice versa. The violin becomes an extension of the body, its sound an extension of the voice. Acoustic illusions, subtle electronics and a violin prepared with screws and vibrators shift between striking intensity, almost inaudible fragility and understated humour, inviting listeners into the liminal space between sound and silence.

The solo programme sogno/suono was supported by the #MusikerZukunft scholarship of the German Orchestra Foundation during the 2024/2025 season. The album of the same name was released in autumn 2025 on the Tonkunstmanufaktur label.
