Paulina Sofie Kiss is a musician and composer focusing on contemporary and electronic music. After studying viola, she studied electroacoustic composition with Robin Minard and Maximilian Marcoll at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar.
She has composed and performed for the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Beethovenfest Bonn and the Podium Esslingen, among others. She was also a scholarship holder of the Baden-Württemberg Art Foundation.
An elementary part of her work is playing with listeners' expectations and attempting to question music in its contexts. At the intersection of electronic and improvised music, jazz, new music and sound art, her work is based on a critical examination of social and cultural-political issues.
Kiss is co-founder of the Detect Classic Festival, where she is co-director and programme curator. She is also musical director of the Detect Ensemble.
