Junges Kammerorchester Baselland

The Junges Kammerorchester Baselland (JKaBL) brings together around 30 dedicated young musicians aged 15 to 30 from the Basel region. The orchestra was founded in 2016 by its current directors, Mirjam Hanauer and Pascal Nippel. From the very beginning, the JKaBL has deliberately performed without a conductor. This innovative musical concept fosters chamber music ensemble playing, personal responsibility, and mutual listening among the performers. The result is a vibrant musical experience that strengthens young people both musically and personally. The repertoire includes both classical chamber orchestra pieces as well as daring and large-scale works from the Romantic and Modern periods.

The JKaBL stages two concert projects annually in the Basel region and has established itself as a fixture in the regional cultural landscape in recent years. The orchestra regularly collaborates with, among others, the choir of the Muttenz Gymnasium, the vocal ensemble pourChoeur, the Oberbaselbiet Concert Choir, and musicians such as Michael Arbenz, Felix Gygli, and Julian Schmidlin. In addition to its two annual main projects, the JKaBL performs at regional festivals, organizes performances in local restaurants and bars, and plays at various private and corporate events.

The ensemble will make a special appearance at the between mountains festival in Hölstein, where it will be performing for the second year in a row in 2026.
