Jan Jelinek

Live Set @ detect classic festival 2025

August 10, 2025

Jan Jelinek's works deal with the transformation of sounds: abstract, reduced textures emerge from pop music material. Using tape recorders, samplers and media players, he processes sound fragments into repetitive loops whose origins are often no longer recognisable. He has been releasing music since 1998, initially under the pseudonym Farben und Gramm. In 2008, he founded the label Faitiche as a platform for his own experiments, for joint projects with artists such as Masayoshi Fujita and the fictional sound researcher Ursula Bogner. With the trio Groupshow, he explores improvised concert formats without a fixed duration.

His experimental radio plays for SWR have won several awards and deal with fictional identities – a central motif in his entire oeuvre. Whether under his own name, as Ursula Bogner or as Gesellschaft zur Emanzipation des Samples (GES), Jelinek's works range from electroacoustic music to minimalist drone landscapes. In live performances, these evolve into dense, ecstatic sound collages.
