Ali Dada sounds like psychedelic guitars, horns and harps, lazy drums, rich double bass and blurred soundscapes – all run through the FX chain to see what comes out. The band draws on elements of surf rock, slow or spiritual jazz, lo-fi beats and ambient to cook up their own unique stew – dense, analogue and full of joy. While their last releases were still rooted in downtempo and after-hours sounds, their 2024 album "Sum" features a new sound of their own. Elusive yet present – somewhere between jazz, wave, film score and the legacy of J Dilla.
